XXVIII BIENNIAL COLLOQUIUM OF THE ITALIAN ASSOCIATION OF COMPARATIVE LAW (AIDC)
PALERMO, 29-31 MAY 2025
The Italian Association of Comparative Law (AIDC) opens an international Call for Papers on the subject Comparative Law in the Age of Disorder.
The XXVIII biennial Colloquium is co-organized with the University of Palermo, Department of Political Science and International Relations DEMS and the Center of Advanced Studies.
We live in a time of disorder. Serious challenges are undermining the traditional balances underpinned by national and supranational legal orders. Some of these challenges relate to the relationship between human beings and nature (ecological crises, natural disasters, increasing water scarcity, etc.), others to the relationship between human beings and their political institutions (fragmentation of traditional social structures, ageing, gender imbalances, breakdown of international organisations, geopolitical tensions, rise of authoritarianism). All of this is a source of complexity for law, both in the sense that legal institutions need to be adapted to keep pace with the ongoing transformations (from the level of legal sources to the techniques of adjudication), and in the sense that legal epistemology needs to be rethought in order to effectively interpret a rapidly changing social environment (is legal certainty still a value, are we witnessing a shift towards ‘personalised’ law, what is the significance of legal subjectivity in the age of AI, etc.?).
The 28th Biennial Colloquium of the Italian Association of Comparative Law aims to examine the long-term effects of the current disruptions on the legal dimension and to reflect on the possible contributions of legal comparison to this debate.

In occasione della Conferenza Internazionale “Sustainability Governance and the Role of Independent Authorities”, organizzata nell’ambito del progetto PRIN 2022 PNRR “New Sustainability Governance (NESUS-G)” dalla Research Unit dell’Università di Parma è aperta una call for papers. L’evento si terrà il 21 marzo 2025 e si propone di esplorare il ruolo delle Autorità Indipendenti nella governance della sostenibilità, con particolare riferimento al settore agroalimentare e alle politiche di sostenibilità ambientale, sociale ed economica. La conferenza sarà strutturata in due sessioni: la prima sessione vedrà le relazioni di esperti internazionali mentre la seconda sessione sarà dedicata agli interventi dei giovani ricercatori selezionati tramite questa Call. Il termine per la presentazione degli abstract è fissato al 1° marzo 2025. Maggiori informazioni sono disponibili nel bando allegato (all. 3).
Call for papers for the international conference NEW SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES: THE ROLE OF COURTS. Università di Siena, Certosa di Pontignano, Siena, 26 and 27 June 2025. The Conference will be organized into three sessions, with the participation of leading scholars from different countries and continents. The sessions will be dedicated respectively to: 1) Challenging Climate Change Before International Courts; 2) Sustainability and Courts: Questioning the Role of Civil Society; 3) Future Generations and Environmental Rights: Insights from Constitutional Courts. The conveners encourage submissions from both PhD candidates and junior scholars (postdoctoral researchers, research fellows, assistant professors, etc.) at the early stages of their academic careers (within 7 years of completing their PhD). A maximum of 14 proposals will be selected. Interested scholars are invited to submit a CV and an abstract, in English or French, of no more than 500 words by March 15, 2025. The University of Rome Unitelma Sapienza (the e-learning University owned by Sapienza University of Rome) is now accepting applications for the Jean Monnet Intensive Summer School on Participation, Lobbying and Transparency in the EU Institutions [PLAT-EU] – 2nd edition (2025). This programme is part of the Jean Monnet Actions in the field of Higher Education Teaching and Research, funded by the European Union. The PLAT-EU Summer School will be held in person in Rome (Italy), and will include special lectures, simulations and role-plays, some of which will exceptionally take place in the headquarters of Italian Institutions. All selected participants will receive a scholarship to cover the Summer School participation fees. The Summer School will take place from July 7th to July 11th, 2025. La Cattedra Jean Monnet “EU Values in the Online digital environment” dell’Università degli Studi Roma Tre – Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche (Prof. Raffaele Torino) apre una call for papers nell’ambito delle attività di ricerca della Cattedra Jean Monnet. L’ecosistema digitale in cui viviamo presenta nuove sfide per i valori fondamentali dell’Unione Europea, come enunciati nell’art. 2 del Trattato sull’Unione Europea: dignità umana, libertà, democrazia, uguaglianza, stato di diritto, diritti umani e diritti delle persone appartenenti a minoranze. I Working Papers dovranno approfondire l’analisi e la comprensione di come questi valori siano protetti e promossi nel contesto digitale, esplorando le intersezioni tra interessi di imprese, cittadini e istituzioni. La call è rivolta a studiosi, accademici, ricercatori, professionisti ed esperti di età non superiore a 40 anni interessati alle tematiche della Cattedra Jean Monnet. Gli abstract (massimo di 300 parole) dovranno essere presentati entro il 15 aprile di ogni anno solare di attività della Cattedra Jean Monnet e dovranno essere accompagnati da un breve cv dell’autore o dell’autrice (massimo 150 parole). In occasione della conferenza finale del progetto PRIN 2022 CURA “Children as vulnerable users of iot and ai-based technologies: a multi-level interdisciplinary assessment”, che si terrà il giorno 25.9.2025 a Pisa, presso la Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, è aperta una call for papers.
