Nata a Lucca (1941), ha iniziato la carriera accademica alla fine degli anni ’60, diventando ordinario nel 1986: è stata la prima donna a rivestire il ruolo di professoressa di prima fascia presso l’allora Facoltà di Giurisprudenza dell’Ateneo fiorentino. È stata Direttrice del Dipartimento di diritto e comparato e penale e Coordinatrice del Corso di laurea magistrale in Giurisprudenza italiana e francese (2002-2012), al quale ha dedicato un impegno costante, fornendo un contributo decisivo per il successo dell’accordo fra l’Università Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne e Unifi. È stata Presidente del Gruppo Italiano dell’Association Henri Capitant des amis de la culture juridique française, più volte Visiting Professor presso prestigiose Law School statunitensi, come la New York University, e per decenni docente a Parigi, dove nel 2016 le è stato conferito il dottorato honoris causa dall’Università Paris-Panthéon-Assas. Ha insegnato fino al 2011. Autrice di numerose pubblicazioni comparatistiche, espressione di originalità di pensiero oltre che di un profondo spirito critico, ha rappresentato per allievi e colleghi un fermo punto di riferimento culturale e didattico, nonché un esempio di integrità, generosità e umanità.

IL DIRITTO COMPARATO nell’epoca del DISORDINE XXVIII BIENNIAL COLLOQUIUM OF THE ITALIAN ASSOCIATION OF COMPARATIVE LAW (AIDC)PALERMO, 29-31 MAY 2025
The Italian Association of Comparative Law (AIDC) opens an international Call for Papers on the subject Comparative Law in the Age of Disorder. The XXVIII biennial Colloquium is co-organized with the University of Palermo, Department of Political Science and International Relations DEMS and the Center of Advanced Studies.

We live in a time of disorder. Serious challenges are undermining the traditional balances underpinned by national and supranational legal orders. Some of these challenges relate to the relationship between human beings and nature (ecological crises, natural disasters, increasing water scarcity, etc.), others to the relationship between human beings and their political institutions (fragmentation of traditional social structures, ageing, gender imbalances, breakdown of international organisations, geopolitical tensions, rise of authoritarianism). All of this is a source of complexity for law, both in the sense that legal institutions need to be adapted to keep pace with the ongoing transformations (from the level of legal sources to the techniques of adjudication), and in the sense that legal epistemology needs to be rethought in order to effectively interpret a rapidly changing social environment (is legal certainty still a value, are we witnessing a shift towards ‘personalised’ law, what is the significance of legal subjectivity in the age of AI, etc.?).

The 28th Biennial Colloquium of the Italian Association of Comparative Law aims to examine the long-term effects of the current disruptions on the legal dimension and to reflect on the possible contributions of legal comparison to this debate.
